Hi June ...open up craft artist .
On the left, at the top is a "Photos" tab above an "embellishments " tab.
Open the photos tab , this is how you import anything else from your computer into the serif craft artist program .
Find your digi images in your computer ,choose the one you want to alter,and click open . It will then appear in the column headed "photo's"
Drag the digi image across onto the page in the centre of the screen, the image will appear as a white square with a drawn image on it.
Click on the digi image to highlight and select it and then select the "cut out studio" button at the top left on the header bar.
If the didgi is very intricate, ie: an image with curly hair or lace edges, then this process will take a little longer .
Once the digi image loads up into the "Cut Out Studio" you can start to remove the outside white edge of the image ,leaving the centre white portion for you to colour in later.
Take it slowly and click often ,then , should you make a mistake , when you undo it , you will only undo the last move you have made .....so click often !
There are three sizes of brushes to use to delete the white outer rim of the image. I usually use the smaller brush, its neater and you can get closer in to the drawn line.
If you use the tab on the right of The "cut out studio" page you can zoom in and it makes it much easier to see what you are removing .
Once you have completed deleting the white outer rim then save the image by clicking okay, but remember you cannot put back any white portions of the image you have deleted, and so make sure you check over the image before you hit okay.
You can however, go back to "cut out studio" with the altered image and take more of the white off the image ,thats if you have missed some ( I usualy miss that tiny bit between the neck and the hairline.
It takes time to get used to, but its great when you want to build a scene with a digi image. I know it can be done by cutting out the image with scissors then putting it onto the background , but this way you digitally cut it out once and you can use it over and over.
Once you have completed the task you can save the completed altered digi drawing for another time.
Remember to leave the completed and altered drawing on a page when you save it ( recently I have pulled the completed image accross in the embellishments column to save it as shown in the book, but have lost the image and all the work I did !! and so now I leave it on a page in the centre of the craft artist page , I give this project a name , ie : the image name and I save it. Remember it will save this project in the file where you got the digi image from in your computer.

Once in "Cut out studio" there are two additional tools , on the left of the screen.
The green one is the KEEP tool the red the DISCARD tool.
Click the green one when you want to keep an area of white and the red when you want to get rid of an area and as I said before you can use one of three brush sizes at the top of the page to do this , I always use the small.
